I’ve said before that I don’t like a lot of new music so when I finally checked out the Silver Jews (thanks to my friend Andreas who used to put them on mix cds for me all the time, sorry I didn’t catch on until now), I realized I was already a total fan of David Berman’s poems. Now the only time I’ve ever admitted to liking poems before they belonged to Bukowski and I’d live and die by his words so no big deal there. Berman wrote one of my all time favorite pieces that is so perfect it’s hard to believe I never got into his band (again, all those hints I should have taken sooner) and it’s called "Self-Portrait at 28 " . It’s long but well worth the read.
Anyway, I caught this video on Sundance earlier today while I was writing down on the back of a Barney’s receipt that Stella McCartney is going to be on Iconoclasts next week and I wanna watch it, the preview prefaced the Silver Jews video. The point? I am so into this song! I just downloaded the whole album and I suggest you do the same.
We just got in and I got really exciting news while we were out. I am so looking forward to this. More details later but I love that so many things I’ve wanted to happen are seriously fucking happening for me and I can’t believe how epic the feeling of accomplishment is right now.
And with that, I’ve had enough champagne for tonight!

Silver Jews played at a venue that is next door to my house a few weeks ago in Portland OR. I went for free because this is the venues way of keeping me from making noise complaints (works for me!) Anywho Berman’s artistic temperament matches or exceeds his talent. A staffer at the Wonder ballroom told him no to some odd request he made regarding set up and he threw a D cell battery at her and hit her in the head! In spite (or perhaps because?) of his tantrum, the show was really good.

I’ve known about Silver Jews for a couple of years…They were sorta in the back of my head and I knew that their day would come. And then the other week it happened. I decided to buy my first Silver Jews record and I decided to put one of their songs on a mixtape. ‘Suffering Jukebox’ is an amazing song.
