we may be hidden by rags but we’ve something they’ll never have

Oh so yes, when I spotted this Ksubi dress I knew I had to have it and the LOVELY team over at Violent Green of Brisbane, Australia were so incredibly kind in special ordering it for me as they themselves did not stock it. I only made the request because they are my favorite store to buy from and what luck when Iggy replied they’d for sure order the dress for me! Too cool. Anyhow, my husband snatched it up from me upon arrival and saved it until my birthday. It is so incredibly perfect, exactly as I had thought, as their shirts are so thin and soft and I knewww that a long sleeve would be absolutely brilliant and so yes, the cut of the sleeves are amazing. It’s technically a dress, though with my height it’s really more of a top. My photos really don’t do it justice (you can see a better view here.) Thanks again to Violent Green for facilitating the l/s & for the super rad birthday wishes!!

Obviously come winter, this is exactly how I’ll be wearing it. You can also see the full debut of the monkey fur he bought me that I was lucky enough to get a few weeks early because how could you keep that from me?? It came with a bag/muff as well that I’m stoked to show off a little later.

when i dream in when i scream in

birthdaymacarons

I woke up Thursday morning to find the room filled with balloons, presents lining the old chesterfield couch and raspberry macarons (that he made for me himself !!!) on the kitchen table! WOW. I seriously can’t say enough about how incredible my husband is. He honestly made this the best birthday ever. I don’t want to list everything I received but you shouldn’t be surprised to hear there were several items from Ksubi.. I’m a wee bit obsessed, if you haven’t already figured that out.

h&m sandals

After a breakfast of the best espresso and macarons, we ventured out to find these sandals at H&M but unfortunately no one had any clue as to their arrival yet. Hopefully they’ll show up soon because as much as they don’t fit my style at all, I’m really into them and they remind me of Led Zeppelin groupies’ (please refer to my favorite post ever by Laura about Lori Maddox) big ole platforms, which is very much how I’d imagine I’d wear ‘em. (Fitting with my own look of course, paired up with dark grey socks, black jeans, new Ksubi dress and monkey fur coat…)

Total win on ebay late late late last night when I couldn’t sleep. Purple Ksubi jeans with the Barneys tags still on them at $220, never worn and belonging to some rich broad’s daughter who clearly never wore ‘em.. and I got ‘em for $49! A total fucking score for something I had been really wanting for so so long (I only have these purple Ksubi shorts).

JJ aka Jennifer Herrama of RTX and Royal Trux fame is styling this sick Volcom fashion show tomorrow night. I have SO MUCH to tell you about her collaboration with Volcom outside of this show, I just gotta get myself all together. Anyhow, if you’re in the area… I can bet this is the best a fashion show will ever look. I have to admit this would have been a rad thing to drop in on for my birthday! Thanks to Kurt and Jen for the birthday gifts though! More on all that later!

SO PROUD OF YOU, DERRICK!

occulterr

Our good friend Derrick Cruz has opened his very first storefront today!!!! You may know Derrick as he is behind the wonderful Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons.

I can’t say how proud I am of him and how much I want to only hang out in the store foreverr.

Derrick is the best and you can stop on it to OCCULTER right this moment!

Full press release below because you need all the details…

Accessories and object makers Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons proudly announce the opening of OCCULTER, their first street-side retail destination. Inspired by a pantheon of fringe thinkers and risk-takers under the influence of the celestial spheres, designers Derrick R. Cruz and newcomer Christine Samar aim to create a material experience that will fan the spark of one basic human necessity: a personal sense of wonder.

OCCULTER opens to the public on July 14, 2010, and is located at the center of New York’s burgeoning Lower East Side shopping and restaurant neighborhood (83 Orchard Street, 10002). Literally attached to the popular Vietnamese eatery An Choi, it’s minimalist interior was designed in collaboration with architect and restaurant co-owner Huy Bui.

OCCULTER will house selected works from the Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons archive as well as pieces designed exclusively for the shop. The location will also host the unveiling of new collections and debut collaborations with other eclectic New York talents, starting with Bryan Collins (album cover designer for School of Seven Bells). Further enhancing the experience, patrons will have an opportunity to take part in the designers’ inspiration via a curated selection of esoteric books (exclusive NYC retailer of Ouroboros Press)and music from labels the likes of Type, Taiga, Important and Sibling Sex Records (all for sale).

excessive lamentation for the dead

ercntr

It’s hard not to let myself slip back into how fucking sad I was last year. Too many people have said you have to move on at some point but fuck that. There are so few genuine and extraordinary people on this planet that when one of the most special is gone forever, it really fucking hurts.

That said, spending another incredible day with my wonderful and extraordinary husband makes me really, really, really fucking happy to be alive.
