mercy mercy mercy let us bleed happily

What else can I say that hasn’t already been said? I love Obesity & Speed more than I actually love speed and Lyz & Josh can do no wrong so you know this completely RADDDDD pop up shop at Earnest Sewn that officially opens tomorrow featuring loads of limited and special pieces just for the shop is going to BLOW YOUR MIND. Show up tomorrow night to Earnest Sewn’s location at 821 Washington St. at 7 o’clock sharp, buy a ton of awesome stuff, have some drinks, fan out on Lyz & Josh and thank them for their signature tanks that no one (you! me!) can stop wearing (and that has been lamely copied lately). GET INTO IT!!! If you remember O&S on The Selby, you can expect the pop up shop to look a little similar to Lyz’s/a teenagers bedroom (we have no issues admitting they’re alike). Full rundown below! Can’t wait to see everything finished!!!
Beginning July 1, 2009, from 7-9 pm @ 821 Washington St.
Obesity and Speed will launch a pop-up shop in Earnest Sewn’s gallery space in their flagship store in the Meatpacking District. They will be selling limited edition items including tote bags, stickers, t-shirts, and tanks bearing their signature dark graphics.
Obesity and Speed was born four years ago in a small basement apartment in New York City. It’s creators are two best friends who need little sleep and have a shared desire to create something special. Their inspiration is gleaned from many sources, but the greatest is each other. The line’s fans include “it” girls, Agyness Deyn, JR Reynolds, Isabelle McNally, and Masha Orlov.
The shop will be modeled after a teenager’s bedroom, taking inspiration from the designers’ own formative years spent mostly grounded in suburbia. Their only consolations then were punk rock, unlocked bedroom windows, and a carefully formulated escape plan.
They are also creating a limited edition zine with collaged artwork and photos of model and muse, JR Reynolds, photos shot by William Strobeck.
Earnest Sewn is a denim brand that sets itself apart by consistency in concept and strong lifestyle identity, as well as their overwhelming commitment to product quality and brand. The concept lies in the idea of mixing the Japanese beauty aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, with denim’s Americana past. The Earnest Sewn design principle is literally translated as ‘product sewn in earnest’. In staying true to this we incorporate pride in workmanship and commitment to authenticity. The production of each garment is overseen by three people, and they monitor it’s progress from start to finish, at every stage: design, sewing, and wash. Every pair is sewn in earnest.
Obesity and Speed is excited and proud to launch their first pop up store in Earnest Sewn.
