we’re hanging out in the parking lot trying to get her to break it down

(Aaron Rose posted this photo from a film he was watching & I love it.)
(Cali could you find out where it’s from?!)
I’m interrupting my own break here with this post because I just think this needs to be said.
I’m kind of disgusted right now by all the mass consumerism I’ve been noticing lately. Fucking people really seriously honestly participating in Black Friday to the point where someone dies or seeing someone buy one extravagant (read: over a grand) purchase within days of another on countless occasions is just plain sickening. Whether or not they work for it or it’s on their parents credit card doesn’t make a difference, it just seems so grossly unnecessary. Everyone is obviously entitled to get their own gear and I’m not trying to take anyone’s inventory whatsoever but I just can’t help but notice this and sneer in their direction. For example, if I really had the bones to buy a thousand dollar coat a la the Moncler set I posted about for Street Carnage , I’d probably just worry too much about messing it up that I wouldn’t want to brave the outside world in it thus rendering it useless. I’m much happier with my stolen-from-my-husband black denim vest (that was a jacket when he had it) and loads of free black jeans I have strewn all over my floor. Sure, I love all my Ann Demeulemeester pieces as well and I do take good care of them when wearing them out but I know when to say no.
With all that said, I haven’t purchased much at all in these last few months since claiming to be over buying random shit I don’t need and so the last few things I have brought home include and are limited to the following:

1. Cheap leather wallet from F21. I needed something simple + small that takes up way less space in my Alex Wang bag since it isn’t the biggest and my old Balenciaga wallet just seems too bulky in there.
2. Kills t-shirt. This will be worn to pieces. I have so many of their shirts, ranging from the very first tour to the latest and pre-Kills days as well. All the rest are filled with holes and bloodstains and look the best ever.
3. Max’s Vans Syndicate sneakers. These will be my favorite Vans since my purple satin pair (which still look brand new a year later, thanks to baby wipes and scotchguard).
I’m also really stoked on this new Rockers NYC shirt Sean is sending over because I’m going to try it out oversized and see if I can’t alter the arms like that Karen Walker shirt I am so obsessed with. Of course they won’t come out nearly as long but I’d much rather sport the Rockers design.

Anyway, I saw this Ksubi DIY for Teen Vogue and think I’m going to give it a go next week. I won’t be cutting up any of my skinny pins like they have but I have enough other random pairs I can fuck with for this project. I really love the outcome and I’ll definitely post it up once I’m done.

Oh yeah and before I forget………..
this happened !

dude, couldn’t agree with you more. and the fact that wal-mart kept running those commercials where they bragged about having more lanes open at 5am (encouraging people to brave the shopping storm) even after the incident was poor taste. thanks for the teen vogue diy link…i want to try it as soon as i find some cheap white jeans.
Yes I will!
and then that walmart opened up later in the day. wtf??? think i’m putting the husband’s art skills to use for that diy.
fuck those walmart shoppers. My heart goes out to Damours family :(
love the kills shirt.
congrats! i love those vans.
Holy crap, I love those vans.. freakin’ fantastic.
Skye
jen dude, you were raised in florida?!
This makes gnarlitude about 27 times cooler.
jen, love your picks! those vans are my all time favorite.
Printed Gnarly! Awesome stuff!
I really hope times are changing – seems like we’re fighting this humbling economic state tooth and nail though, when we all could do with a wee bit of humbling from time to time.
Love that you took a break from spending… love your little picks… enjoy your break dude. Love your blog.
That photo from Aaron Rose is so so sexy (as is your coverage in FOAM).
I think we all just want to gnaw on the boards.
that hate tee is the perfect gift to someone that just cant take a hint.
and nice wallet, i was surprised that its f21
I love that wallet and the Kills shirt! =D
i’ve never heard about “black friday” until just last week. i wish i never did. grossicles.
Can’t wait to see everyone try out the jeans!
It’s a beautiful film still. I hope you find out what film it is from. The DIY jeans look great, but I bet it would take ages to actually make a pair, and seewing jeans back together is not that easy – you can’t just do it by hand.
love the shirt.
it really is an inappropriate time for excessive spending….hopefully people will start appreciating what they have instead.
awesome post. i still can’t believe the walmart temp died like that.
post the pictures of those jeans yr making as soon as theyre done. dying for it. and ofcourse foam loaves you!
